Another GOP Senator To Be Outed Monday?

 Read the comments for Cannonfires post

Thus, I will not name the very powerful congressman in question. Suffice it to say that his name may have popped up in previous posts published by this blog.
Hint: Sibel. Hint: Wife -- hotel room.
At one time, I would never have mentioned such things in public. Let the private remain private; what others do with their genitalia is none of my concern. But -- as I may have mentioned on a previous occasion -- when congressman McHenry, using inane and evidence-free arguments, tried to blame the Foley scandal on the Democrats, I got really pissed off, and my conception of the permitted became more elastic.
Besides, having an aide threaten a young man in order to insure silence is way out of line.

We're All Prisoners, Now: US Citizens to be Required ''Clearance'' to Leave USA

Neocons now blame Bush for Iraq failure (none of it was their fault)

Their just now figuring this out?  Doesn't say much for them either now does it!

Adelman:

"I just presumed that what I considered to be the most competent national-security team since Truman was indeed going to be competent. They turned out to be among the most incompetent teams in the post-war era. Not only did each of them, individually, have enormous flaws, but together they were deadly, dysfunctional."

And The Poor Get Poorer.

 Link, link, link, click it.

1 in 4 U.S. jobs pay less than a poverty-level income.

During the 1980s, 13% of Americans age 40 to 50 spent at least one year below the poverty line; by the 1990s, 36% did.

Since 2000, the number of Americans living below the poverty line at any one time has steadily risen. Now 13% of all Americans—37 million—are officially poor.

Among households worth less than $13,500, their average net worth in 2001 was $0. By 2004, it was down to –$1,400.

How the Rich Get Richer

Follow the link for the meat.

IN 1985, THE FORBES 400 were worth $221 billion combined. Today, they’re worth $1.13 trillion—more than the GDP of Canada.

THERE’VE BEEN FEW new additions to the Forbes 400. The median household income has also stagnated—at around $44,000.

How the Bush Family Makes a Killing from George's Presidency

 Be sure to follow the link at the bottom of this post.

Halliburton scored almost $1.2 billion in revenue from contracts related to Iraq in the third quarter of 2006, leading one analyst to comment: "Iraq was better than expected... Overall, there is nothing really to question or be skeptical about. I think the results are very good."
Very good indeed. An estimated 655,000 dead Iraqis, over 3,000 dead coalition troops, billions stolen from Iraq's coffers, a country battered by civil war - but Halliburton turned a profit, so the results are very good.
Very good certainly for Vice President Dick Cheney, who resigned from Halliburton in 2000 with a $33.7 million retirement package (not bad for roughly four years of work). In a stunning conflict of interest, Cheney still holds more than 400,000 stock options in the company. Why pursue diplomacy when you can rake in a personal fortune from war?
Yet Cheney isn't the only one who has benefited from the Bush administration's destructive policies. The Bush family has done quite nicely too. Just a few examples:

Republican Contract with America

Does anyone remember this!

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

  • FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
  • SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
  • THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
  • FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
  • FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
  • SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
  • SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
  • EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

19 Things The Republicans Want You To Forget

When you go to the polls on November 7th, 2006, don’t forget what the Republicans have been doing to you and your family for the past six years.

It’s easy to get distracted in our attention deficit disorder world. We need a pill to help us focus, another to keep us sane, some to raise our level of arousal and others to put us to bed at night.

There are a lot of people vying for our hard-earned nickels.

The most sinister of the strangers trying to steal our hard-earned nickels are called “politicians”.

Our Neo-Con Administration Puts Iraq's Nuclear Arms Documents On The Web

Idiots.

The documents, roughly a dozen in number, contain charts, diagrams, equations and lengthy narratives about bomb building that nuclear experts who have viewed them say go beyond what is available elsewhere on the Internet and in other public forums. For instance, the papers give detailed information on how to build nuclear firing circuits and triggering explosives, as well as the radioactive cores of atom bombs.

“For the U.S. to toss a match into this flammable area is very irresponsible,” said A. Bryan Siebert, a former director of classification at the federal Department of Energy, which runs the nation’s nuclear arms program. “There’s a lot of things about nuclear weapons that are secret and should remain so.”

Why Democratic-leaning companies outperform Republican-leaning ones.

So what makes Democratic-leaning companies do better? Adamson attributes the outperformance to what he calls "progressive leadership." Companies with progressive leaders are more likely to innovate and be flexible, more likely to treat employees better (Costco), more likely to work better with outside organizations that can burnish or damage brands (the Gap), and more likely to earn the loyalty of committed customers with lots of disposable income (Starbucks). And all that leads to better profits and performance. Says Adamson: "Nice guys sometimes can finish first."

What Republicans Call 'Spin' the Rest of The World Calls 'Lies'

This link is a good read, especially for the last few paragraphs.

He told me the night before that he heard from one of the teachers that, because of the magnitude of the expected storm, classes had been called off in advance for the next day. We found out later that night that this information was incorrect, that a preemptive snow-day had not been called and my little boy promptly apologized for "lying."
I asked at the time if he knew that a snow-day had really not been called and, when he replied that he really did believe his information was correct, I explained that he had simply been mistaken and that he had not lied. If he had found out at 6:00 PM that his information was wrong, I said to him, telling me at 7:00 PM that school had already been canceled would indeed have been a lie.
My little boy understands and acknowledges that obvious distinction -- Republicans do not.

Scientists say White House muzzled them

Two federal agencies are investigating whether the Bush administration tried to block government scientists from speaking freely about global warming and censor their research, a senator said Wednesday.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (news, bio, voting record), D-N.J., said he was informed that the inspectors general for the Commerce Department and NASA had begun "coordinated, sweeping investigations of the Bush administration's censorship and suppression" of federal research into global warming.

"These investigations are critical because the Republicans in Congress have ignored this serious problem," Lautenberg said.

Child abuse may alter victims' brain chemistry

A new study on monkeys raised by abusive mothers suggests that growing up in an abusive household can alter brain chemistry in a way that makes some youngsters prone to mistreating their own children when they grow up.

In other words, abuse is not just something that's learned from living with abusive parents, although that may have an influence, according to authors of the report, published in Thursday's issue of the journal Behavioral Neuroscience.

Suffering through abuse also appears to permanently lower the brain's production of an important regulator of emotions called serotonin, said Dario Maestripieri, the study's lead author and an associate professor at the University of Chicago in comparative human development. Low serotonin can make people more prone to acts of rejection, impulsive aggression and violence.

Primary and early e-voting problems point to gathering storm

Don't let the President here about this....He'll use this info to inact Martial Law.

As we move toward the November mid-terms, we're beginning to a more detailed and depressing picture of exactly what we're up against as a nation in less than a week: two major new reports from independent research groups detail the myriad security breaches, and procedural and technical problems in the 2006 Ohio primaries; stories from early voting in Texas indicate that the paperless DREs in at least two counties may have a partisan bias; another major new report from the University of Connecticut details a whole raft of security vulnerabilities in Diebold's optical scan voting machines; finally, BlackBoxVoting.org has released "push this, pull here" instructions for multiple voting on a Sequoia DRE, no hacking skills necessary.

Wayne Madsen Does It Again

 George 'Macaca' Allen.

Allen is described by Capitol Hill insiders as having a relationship with one of his gay Senate staffers that is "closer" than his relationship with his wife Susan.

Allen's closeted homosexuality has long been the subject of interest ever since his time as Governor of Virginia. Allen, according to informed sources in Richmond, was a frequent visitor to private clubs in the state capital that catered to gay clients. The rumors about Allen dogged him from Richmond to Washington, especially after it became well known that Allen's DC hiring practices favored young gay men. Allen was also one of three U.S. Senators who received contributions from Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned after soliciting sex from underage male pages. The other two are Rick Santorum and Jim Talent.

Something To Save For Later

Wayne Madsen again.

November 1, 2006 -- Amid the non-story involving Sen. John Kerry's joke about George W. Bush's lack of an education and his getting stuck in Iraq, it is opportune to revisit this story about the GOP's chief bellyacher John McCain:

"January 16, 2006 -- Why is John McCain so supportive of Bush and Cheney after being so viciously attacked by them in the 2000 campaign? The answer to this question may partially rest in Navy records detailing the events that took place on the USS Forrestal on "Yankee Station" in the Gulf of Tonkin at the end of July 1967. The neo-cons, who have had five years to examine every file within the Department of Defense, have likely accessed documents that could prove embarrassing to McCain, who was on board the USS Forrestal on July 29, 1967, and whose A-4 Skyhawk was struck by an air-to-ground Zuni missile that had misfired from an F-4 Phantom.

Whiskey the Turnspit Dog

Turnspit dogs were in use until the middle of the 19th century as a
tool to save cooks in large households the effort of turning meat on a
spit by hand. The dog would be placed in a small wheel connected to the
spit and as he ran the spit would be turned.

In order not to overexert a dog with this hot and unpleasant
work they were often kept in pairs, so that they could be worked in
shifts. It is believed that this is the origin of the proverb ‘every
dog has his day.’

‘Whiskey’ is the last surviving specimen of a turnspit dog,
albeit stuffed. The breed appears to have died out with the advent of
mechanisation in the kitchen.

Tax Cuts? There Weren't Any

Gee! even I understand this.

So - here's the real story.  At some point one or a combination of two things has to happen.  Either:

1.) Taxes have to increase and/or
2.) Spending has to decrease
There is no way to get around the fact.

The Republican noise machine is selling a false bill of goods (funny, I almost wrote "goofs" instead which would probably be far more accurate.)  Different people have labeled Republican economic theory in different ways.  Kash at Angry Bear calls it the "free lunch" crowd.  Stirling Newberry calls it "borrow and squander".  I call it "you can have your cake and eat it to".  However, all of us are saying the same thing.

It's a false bill of goods.  There is only so long you can charge growth on the national credit card before you hit your limit.

The Nightmare Coming

America could lose its entire army in Iraq if it continues with plans to attack Iran, according to military expert William Lind.

The third and final act in the national tragedy that is the Bush administration may soon play itself out. The Okhrana reports increasing indications of “something big” happening between the election and Christmas. That could be the long-planned attack on Iran.

An attack on Iran will not be an invasion with ground troops. We don’t have enough of those left to invade Ruritania.

It will be a “package” of air and missile strikes, by U.S. forces or Israel. If Israel does it, there is a possibility of nuclear weapons being employed. But Israel would prefer the U.S. to do the dirty work, and what Israel wants, Israel usually gets, at least in Washington.

The Democrats taking either or both Houses of Congress, if it happens, will not make any difference. They would rather have the Republicans start and lose another war than prevent a national disaster.

Politics comes first and the country second. Nor would they dare cross Israel.

Short and Sweeeet!

I'll keep this simple.

If Bush gets voted out, he WILL be found guilty of his crimes.

The modern world killed off the nap

 I agree.

But sleep experts say a lot of us really could use that nap. James B. Maas, the Cornell University sleep expert, says most people don't get enough sleep and that an afternoon nap can help. In fact, Maas coined the term "power nap" to emphasize that a nap can make a person more productive and energetic.

Many studies have shown that napping improves mood and performance.

This year, researchers at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia, reported that they took test subjects who had had only five hours of sleep the night before and let them have naps of varying durations.

They found that even a 10-minute nap made the subjects feel less sleepy and more vigorous, and led to improved cognitive performance.

Snow: President Bush Has ‘Actually Taken The Lead’ On Climate Change

 Somebody better mix up another barrel of Kool-Aid. Looks like the GOP is starting to dehydrate.

Today White House Press Secretary Tony Snow stated that “contrary to stereotype,” President Bush has been “actively engaged in trying to fight climate change.” He also took issue with a reporter’s comment that the United States has been absent from a global emissions and cap trade program, arguing that the Bush administration has “actually taken the lead on those kinds of innovations.

70% of Iraqi Police Loyal to Sectarian Militias

 This may be the best reason as to why we may need to 'Cut and Run'

Seventy percent of the Iraqi police force has been infiltrated by militias, primarily the Mahdi Army, according to Shaw and other military police trainers. Police officers are too terrified to patrol enormous swaths of the capital. And while there are some good cops, many have been assassinated or are considering quitting the force.

"None of the Iraqi police are working to make their country better," said Brig. Gen. Salah al-Ani, chief of police for the western half of Baghdad. "They're working for the militias or to put money in their pocket."

Be sure to follow the link below to see what I mean.

A sampling of press from around the world should show Americans that their president's foreign policy is a dismal failure.   Whether you define the country of origin an "ally" or "foe," the message is the same:  President Bush is a complete disaster and his party should be voted out.  You'd be hard pressed to find any major media outlet anywhere in the world that has anything positive to say about the Bush administration.  Here's our most recent sampling:

Media Matters - ABC memo reveals Air America advertiser blacklist

 Boycott!

An internal ABC Radio Networks memo obtained by Media Matters for America, originally from a listener to The Peter B. According to the memo, the adverstisers insist that "NONE of their commercials air during AIR AMERICA programming." Among the advertisers listed are Bank of America, Exxon Mobil, Federal Express, General Electric, McDonald's, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and the U.S. Navy.

Wayne Madsen Report

Wayne Madsen Report is one of those few web sites that regularly reports breaking news on politics well before the mainstream media becomes aware. The following paragraph is a case in point.

I'm going to put together my list of must read sites that do exactly what Wayne Madsen does on his. Hopefully it won't take me to long. check back often.

October 30, 2006 -- WMR previously reported on rumors from Capitol Hill East (in the bars along Pennsylvania Avenue) about Sen. Orrin Hatch's "secret" lifestyle. It appears that hypocrisy knows no bounds in the GOP. We have now received info from knowledgeable sources in Utah that the rumors about Hatch have much merit.

Time to send Hatch packing so he can sell his hypocritical "morality" somewhere other than in the US Senate.
